What the heck is that in the sky?!? ~ I was driving to work very early Monday morning (about 3:40 a.m.) and the sky was all big with a small half moon. Well all of a sudden I see directly in front of me and over the road a flashing light streak across the sky and I'm thinking "Holey Moley what the heck was that!!?" It reminded me of a firework going across the sky but it was way too high. This was about 3:40 am and I'm thinking it's either space junk re-entering the atmosphere or a meteorite but Wow what an incredible sight!! It was visible and moving fast but a lot slower and lower than a regular shooting star. It was in the sky for 2-4 seconds, the end turned green and then it just disappeared suddenly. I tried to get what it looked like in a digital painting but it was a lot further below the moon, the trail longer and not as wide as the one I did here. "Night flash" (and no I promise I wasn't seeing things LOL! Has anyone else seen anything like this before or have any idea what it could be??

that is amazing and that you were able to get a photograph of it. Have you thought about showing to your local astronomy society? Or I wonder if John would answer it for you, he is an expert in this field (is a member of an art coop I was in)

Thanks for the link JB and I will contact him! No I didn't get an actual photo of it but would give anything if I could have. I was driving my vehicle when I saw it. Right after I saw it (after I picked up my jaw) I tried to 'burn' in my brain exactly how it looked and then I rendered it in my digital art program Dogwaffle. It was way lower than the moon and the tail was longer and thinner and it only tuned bright green on the end right as it disappeared.

That is too cool Lyn! I wonder what it was...UFO? Space JUnk? That must have been an odd feeling being out on the road so early in the morning and seeing what you saw!

Hi Cyn, it didn't look like a UFO (not that I've ever seen one LOL)but to me it looked like a falling star or meteorite shower or maybe a piece of space junk that entered the atmosphere and burned up. Who knows what all is up there that enters earth's orbit! I know this sounds weird but I like driving that early and I get ideas for paintings driving at night. I think that's when my muse likes to visit me. :D I don't mind as long as it's only 3 or 4 times a week anyways.

How jealous am I???

It must have been so cool to see that, Lynette! You know how I am about that stuff.

Love the pic, too! Think it would make a fab greeting card!

Ha Terri I was so busy picking my jaw back up and being astonished at what I was seeing that I forgot to make a wish but I sure wish I had!
W.J. I thought about ya when I was posting the pic cause I know you love things like this! I grumble about having to drive in to work so early but I would have missed seeing this if I hadn't! Making a print is a cool idea!

Wow, that's amazing indeed!
I think my son would say "that's a shooting star!" as he read his favourite story "Thomas (the train) and the Shooting Star".

Thanks Fenny, maybe it was just a low shooting star, I wish your son could've seen it, it was really neat, almost like a firework!
