Tree of Everlasting Life ~ It's funny how our artwork reflects our emotions and the way we are feeling when we create them. I'm still trying to decide if I want to leave this one just the way it is or make it look more cheerful. It looks pretty stark and minimal for my usual tree paintings, but for some reason this one feels done or almost done to me. It's acrylics on 140 lb. watercolor paper and 9 x 14 inches.

I like this tree Lynnie,,,,it's very dramatic. Also the accent of rust in the lower background,,,it is sombre yes,,,,,but that's part of it's beauty.

I really like this. If you feel it is done, despite what your internal "educated critic" says, then its done. I always have to remind myself that works that come from the mind are done when the mind says its done, and works that come from the heart are done when the heart says its done. Its a matter of figuring out which had a greater hand in the creation, and then listening to it.

Again, I really really like this one. Its defintely a heart peice; full of mood and atmosphere. its delicate too, with the pastel and lacey branches.

The only thing that could be added it, is perhaps some highlights on the lower section of the trunk, near the roots...

I can just about feel the frost on the ground in this one.

I like it as is, Lynette. And, the light in that sky is beautiful.

Thanks Babs and this one is telling me "I'm not done yet" and I'm getting some ideas that some buds or leaves want to grow on the branches. I'm just going to have to look at it for a few days.
Aww Rachel, thanks and you are so right about works that come from the mind and heart. Yes some highlights are going to be added down there near the roots.
Thanks Janet, I'm looking forward to fall and you just gave me an idea for this one!

I like it as is, Lynette! But, you're the artist and you'll know when it's finished.

It doesn't feel gloomy to me, I really like it. It feels like a place I enjoy being, a place of solitude and a time to reflect.

Hi Cyn and thanks so much. I'm calling this one finished but I like Rachel's advice and I'm going to put some highlights near bottom of the tree.
Thanks Terri!
J.B. I did feel solitude, peace, and sadness (thinking of my Mom) when I did this, thanks so much!

oh lynette, it is hard isn't it :( I don't think it ever really goes away, just the pockets of sadness become a little more spread out. A beautiful painting.
