PAGE ONE OF A FAIRY TALE ~ I finished this painting today and it's acrylics, 9 1/4 X 12 inches on unstretched canvas. I just bought a new color of acrylics and had to try it out on this one. I usually just use red, blue, yellow, black and white to mix all my colors but couldn't get purple to come out right so I bought some dioxazine purple and woo I love it! Purple here I come!

this is very intriguing and surreal. I really like it a lot.

Thanks Alfreda, appreciate your nice comment! Most of my paintings are surreal lately and I just wish I knew if I'm going in the right direction or not. I love doing abstracts but I always find myself pulled into doing stuff more representational and it always turns out looking surreal.

This is great, Lynette! You do seem to be on a magical bent -- but I LIKE it!

Page One of a Fairy Tale -- does that mean you're working on a series, or is that just a really clever title?

You must be working like crazy; every time I check in you've posted a finished piece!

Breathe!

Thanks W.J. hey you gave me an idea about doing a series. I just couldn't think of a title and thought it looked like some fairy tale scene but my hubby said it looked like Edward Scissorhand's Christmas tree LOL! I love painting and this didn't take very long to do. I feel like I am breathing when I'm painting hehe! :)

PURPLE! I LOVE PURPLE! And you are right! Ya just have to buy it. nothing compares...

Lynette said...

Thanks Terri yep I found out you have to buy it because mixing the red/blue doesn't make a purple that looks right, more like mud when I did it.

Why fight it lyn, maybe that is the direction your muse wants you to go for now. I love the surreal quality.

Thanx Alfreda I love working in surreal..I mean, who wants reality not me LOL ! :) :O :p I get enough of that every day!

A couple of days ago, I posted a very long and profound (writes that jokingly) comment about this painting and blogger was acting up...lost it and now I'm back to try and re-create it.

I could see a series evolve from this painting. I like the surreal quality to it...night view outside a broken window, the moon, magic. I love it. Can't wait to see the next one!

I know what you mean about purple. I use a magenta color that makes a terrific pink when mixed with white and a good purple when mixed with ultramarine.

Thanks Cynthia! Arrgh I hate when that happens, I try to remember to copy when I type out a long one cause it happens to me and it's so darn aggravating.
Hey thanks for the tip on the magenta color I am going to look for that too. I am going to make a series out of this and I'm ready to start on the next one.

Me too! Um . . . either!

Thanks Cyn and W.J. I got my work cut out for me! :p

No problem! Just quit you job, unplug the phone, and paint.

What do you mean, "That's not a good plan."?

Lynette said...

OMG W.j. you don't know how much I would LOVE to do just that!

Unknown said...

Gosh, did I say, "Quit *you* job?"

Has anyone seen my language skills?

Lynette said...

hehe that's OK W.J. I must have bad readin' skills cause I didn't notice your typo! :):P

Very cool painting! It feels like a door to another dimension.

It's easier to get purple if you mix magenta and blue. I find that red is very difficult to use in a mix.

Hi Flo! Thanks for the help yep the red turns muddy when you try to mix it with any cool colors.
