Hoo Me? ~ The other day I was up in the attic rummaging around for something and found an old art kit I had given my daughter many years ago. I found some oil pastels in there, and having no idea of how to actually use them, I started drawing on a piece of watercolor paper with them. They are almost like regular crayons which you can smear around with your fingers! I made a little owl which is 3 x 5 inches and hey I'm kind of attached to him now hehe! I'm finally starting to feel human again after being run over by the flu. I think next year I may try the flu shot!
'Dreamcatcher', the painting pictured below is now gone. A friend of my daughter's boyfriend saw some of my paintings at their house and wanted a 'weird' one...so I was happy to sell that one to him! I think I may try one similiar to it in blue!

Glad to hear you're feeling better! I love oil pastels, though I don't do much with them anymore. I also love water color crayons, but ditto. There's something wonderful about drawing with that texture.

You new painting is fabulous!

Hi Lynnette! Great news about selling the painting and about getting past this nasty flu. The flu just kind of hangs on for a while, doesn't it. I am sorry you have had that to deal with this winter.

This is great fun! So you are playing with some pastels...they are great fun to be sure. You also might like the oil sticks as they are similar to oil pastels, but dry hard like oil paint (actually paint in stick form).

Cute owl!

I am considering the flu shot next fall also.

Looks like you had quite a bit of fun with the pastels.

Congrats on your sale, Lynette! Glad to hear you're feeling better.

I've only had the 'flu twice in my life -- and one of those put me in the hospital (but only because it sent my asthma into overdrive).

I don't take the shots, but I do lean heavily on vitamins and hand sanitizer -- especially at this time of year.

When I'm in crowds (shows, for instance) I also swab a tiny bit of hand sanitizer into my nostrils.

I haven't had 'flu or caught a real cold (just allergies) since the '80s!

Gosh, hope I haven't just jinxed myself.

Feel better!

Glad you're both better! I used to think my first box of pastels was so special! they had about 50 colours and they were from my grandma. I was about 10. We drew birds and put them in trees!
They are rather smudgey. In school we always put a paper towel under the kids' hands.

Thanks so much Cyn, I had never used oil pastels but now I'm thinking I'd like to try them again!
Thank you Kim and you're right the flu really hangs on for awhile. I'm still trying to get my energy back. The oil sticks sound fun too!
Thanks Janet, I did have fun with the new medium!
Thank you Angela for the nice words!
W.J. those sound like some good tips to keep from catching the flu. We caught it from my duaghter's boyfriend (still teasing him about that). Stay well and it's great that you've only had it twice in so many years but the time in the hosp. must have been a doozy!
Thank MOI and what wonderful memories of using the oil pastels with your Grandmother! I found out they are smeary hehe.
