I've been working on and off for the last couple of days on two new sketchbooks...and having lots of fun doing it! I recieved both Karen's and Suki's books this week and I got them both finished, yeaa! Check out Karen's blog at: Threadstory

I titled Karen's book 'Grandma's Quilt Pieces'. I really had fun with her book too and I know she loves fabrics and sewing. I am a real fumble-fingers when it comes to sewing and then...aha, I remembered something I had sewn over 45 years ago, talk about vintage lol! My Grandma had boxes and boxes of fabric scraps at her house and she taught my sister and I, when we were about 10 years old, how to make quilt pieces. Well, I had so much fun matching colors and patterns and actually sewed up a quilt piece a couple of feet wide. I never finished that quilt but I still have the section in my drawer and the material and thread is stong as ever! Well, I took off one square of that old quilt and placed it in the little pocket (made out of yupo paper). I collaged in buttons, a real needle (point dulled), a piece of fuzzy thread and used metallic gold and pearl paints for the background. I also glued an art card that I had done and cut the edges. OK, I'm ready for the next 2 books, which I've heard are heading my way. I'm going to let the glue dry overnight and get these in the mail to Karen M. in the next day or two.

Exciting colors! What an interesting looking button. Some Hebrew or Arabic writing perhaps?
Hi Janet, thanks and I honestly don't know what kind of button it is or even when I got it. It had a backing of some really soft silver colored metal and I popped the button out. I was guessing they were Asian symbols, but I'm not sure.
I think the button is Chinese. The square middle is similar to Chinese coins I have used in my art. It is definitely NOT Hebrew, a language I am very familiar with.
These pages wow me. I love the fire and ice having just done a piece on fire myself! Love the stamped ice cubes and the swirling paint.
The quilting one of course appeals to the textile artist in me. Sweet that you found a quilted piece from your own stash of years ago.
These will both be deeply appreciated and enjoyed I am sure. And I am glad I'll get a chance to see them before they get to their owners.
Hi Lynnie! Beautiful works, I love the first one especially, and yes the thing with the inscriptions is Chinese, I've seen similar ones before, I think they are coins or maybe good-luck charms, but anyway the writing is Chinese.

I love how you went and found the quilt blocks you had done and used a bit of it here! Fire and Ice! Beautiful! I am going to enjoy having this book with everyones work in it!! I feel so LUCKY to be a part of it all.

I love them!!! Wonderfully done! I love the story of how your grandmother taught you to make quilts! Very touching and I'm sure that everytime you make someone of that sort you think of your grandmother. Thanks for sharing with us! *HUGS*

Aww thanks Angela, that bunch of quilt pieces makes me remember my Grandma and she's been gone many years now. I just took off one little square for this sketchbook page and the rest of them are in my chest drawer where it's been so many years.
